You say you wanna Revolution?

It can't be said that the member screening of Revolutionary Road didn't stir up debate amongst members. Director Sam Mendes' film starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio got the audience talking after the show.

What did you think?

A near miss; neither scales the heights nor plumbs the depths of AMERICAN BEAUTY, but a moving, "smell the cigarettes" portrait of mid-century New York (like MAD MEN on TV); a stroll down Memory Lane, or, more likely, Nightmare Alley. The fault lies mostly in the dialogue, which has a stagey, forced sound which is true of some of the performances. Kathy Bates a jewel!

"Mad Men" meets "Kiss Me Kate" meets "The War of the Roses", all in The land of The Narcissists. Sadly, we've seen this too many times, and done better than these two otherwise capable actors. Leo is not believable in the role and, for once, brings no gravitas to a performance. Kate gets caught perfecting her American accent in every speech. The only shining lights were Kathy Bates, in serio-comic relief, and Michael Shannon as a mad jester.
