Tonight's member screening is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and with few screenings and a wide release not until Christmas, there is much buzz about David Fincher's latest project with Brad Pitt (Se7en, Fight Club).

Let me get this out of the way first - it is NOT too long, unless you are a violent opponent of the Kevin Costner school of film-making. That being said, it might be tough for it to recover its costs, due simply to less showings. And what a shame if audiences do not flock to this rich and lush story. The director paints to the edges, every scene like one of those old master tapestries, the kind that hang in museums and take more than a few viewings to grasp. And I mean EVERY scene - the small ones are just as delicate and moving as the larger moments, and it is a film about life's moments (all of them) and how each can impact another. This movie is old school romantic, and Cate Blanchett is scary good. Taraji P. Hensen, who we only knew from television roles, is the heart and soul of this adaptation, and surely will join Cate with an Oscar nomination. The film itself will likely compete well for the "smaller" academy awards - adapted screenplay, costumes, art direction, but it would not surprise me to see it be a Best Picture contender...A++ for this wonderful experience.
I totally agree with Dan P. the time on this movie slipped away without me even being aware of it. The entire movie was a wonderful experience. Every scene was balanced by the contrast of the other. It almost felt like being immersed in some type of a time warp. All of the performances certainly have oscar potential. Looking at what Hollywood has produced lately this was magic!
