I think Eldorado was best of the fest and was completely overlooked by many; not enough buzz, I suppose. Everyone whom I talked to who had seen thought it was in a class by itself. I recommend it highly and hope it gets wide distribution in the U.S.

Hard to argue with the "winners", but I find it unfortunate that the ratings were not higher for "Kabei" and "The Witch of the West Is Dead". Two smaller films also intrigued me - "Dunya and Desie", and "Egon and Donci". The biggest argument in line seems to be swirling about "The Three Monkeys". A few people told me that they loved it, many more found it to be not to their liking.

While many had their personal favorite, I had my favorite 3-Departures;Captain Abu Raed; and Dean Spanley. I saw a lot of films this year (over 200 in the pre-screening and 30+ in the festival) and my sense was there were many 'good' films but few 'great' films.

Darryl and his crew ran a great festival. A big thank you to all who helped

Could someone please explain to me how "Hooked" made it into the BOFF?? Was it the last film left on the shelf to fill the last time slot on Monday? Or is it a political move to support Romanian filmmakers with the hope that someday they might actually make a film worth spending the time and money to go see? (i.e. last year's 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days) Every movie I saw this year was really good, some better than others, but overall a great time for my 20th year as a PSFF attendee. Unfortunately, my last experience was suffering through "Hooked", but I won't hold it against the festival. I'll just stay away from Romanian films and those touted New Voices New Visions. Hope Rain was better... did anyone see that one?
